Queer Dance Party Protest for Healthcare at Mitch McConnell's House!

We're about to WERK for our health - on Mitchie's lawn.

WASHINGTON, DC. – WERK for Peace and hundreds of rainbow-clad queer protesters will descend on Mitch McConnell's house in Northeast DC to throw a massive dance party in protest of the Senate healthcare bill. Beginning at Union Station (Columbus Circle) at 6pm, today, Monday, June 26, we will parade to McConnell's house, leaving behind bucketfuls of rainbow biodegradable confetti and glitter.

“Mitch McConnell and his cronies of cis-hetero able-bodied white men need to know that we will not give them a pass to blatantly attack our communities. If they choose not to listen to what we have to say about our personal health and well-being, and if they choose to prioritize corporate interests, then we will show up at their doorstep to make it known that we are not ok with them targeting us" says Firas Nasr, founding organizer of WERK.

The Senate version of "repeal and replace" targets the most vulnerable members of our communities. In defunding Planned Parenthood, dramatically cutting medicaid, and repealing taxes on the wealthy, the bill will leave millions without coverage and especially target women, people with HIV/AIDS, people with disabilities, low income people, people of color, and people who use mental health services.

Written and negotiated by 13 men in secret, the healthcare plan was released last Thursday. The Senate is expected to vote on the bill this week.

Nasr continues, “If Mitch McConnell will not work for the American peoples' health, then we the people will WERK for our health. As they are voting, the Senate must remember who they are working for.”
