WERK for Consent: A Queer and Trans Dance Protest

  • Trump International Hotel Washington, D.C. (map)

With the Predator in Chief and his woman- and LGBT-hating sidekick Daddy Pence actively working to take our bodily autonomy, condone and excuse sexual violence, and silence survivors, get ready to #WERKforConsent!

The Trump administration has worked tirelessly to silence and sideline individuals who experience sexual violence, especially those at the margins – queer and trans individuals, people of color, immigrants, sex workers, people with disabilities – who experience sexual violence at higher rates. Donald Trump himself has been accused by at least 19 women of sexual misconduct. It is time to uplift survivors’ voices and reclaim our bodily autonomy.

People in DC who are not attending Creating Change will meet at the Trump International Hotel at 12:45pm to celebrate consent with rainbow biodegradable confetti, glitter, bumpin’ music, and whatever form of dance you feel moved to do! We will be joined by thousands of activists at 1:15pm from the National LGBT Task Force Creating Change Conference to boogie, shimmy, and booty-shake all over the Trump Hotel. We will then head to DC Council, where two bills are currently being considered to decriminalize sex work and to address sexual and hate-based harassment on a citywide level. We will have cars for individuals with accessibility needs and will have hand warmers and colorful swag to keep you warm!!

It’s time to come together and demand a world where no one has to say #MeToo. We’re calling on our federal government and our local government to believe survivors and pass legislation to address sexual violence using a public health approach that doesn’t increase criminalization and works to build consent culture. All bodies, genders, sexualities, and expressions are welcome.
